James Arthur leads race for Christmas number one
James Arthur is on course to beat Justice Collective’s Hillsborough single to the Christmas number one.
The X Factor winner is currently in the lead after nearly selling a further 76,000 copies since reaching number one Sunday (December 16).
However, the single ‘Impossible’ is just 3,000 copies ahead of The Justice Collective’s cover He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother meaning they’re still in with a good chance of claiming the Christmas number one on Sunday.
The Justice Collective’s track has been released as tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster and features Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and Melanie C, among others.
Martin Talbot, Official Charts Company’s Managing Director, said: ‘While James Arthur has an early lead over The Justice Collective after just two days of sales, it is exceptionally tight – especially with Christmas gift purchases likely to impact on both releases as the week progresses. It looks like being an extremely exciting race for this year’s Official Christmas Number 1.’
