Jane Lynch pays tribute to Glee’s Cory Monteith at Emmys

Jane Lynch paid tribute to her Glee co-star Cory Monteith at last night’s 65th Emmy Awards.

Speaking about Cory, who lost his battle with addiction in July, Jane acknowledged the controversy surrounding the decision to honour the young star.

“This summer on our show Glee we suffered a painful death in our family,” the 53-year-old actress solemnly told the audience.

She gave a little background on Cory’s character Finn Hudson who went from star quarterback to “wide-eyed and heartfelt glee singer.”

“From the first time you saw Cory he had a star quality and a genuine sweetness that made it impossible not to fall in love with him.”

“Cory was a beautiful soul. He was not perfect, which many of us here tonight can relate to. His death is a tragic reminder of the rapacious, senseless destruction that is brought on by addiction.”

‘Tonight we remember Cory for all he was and mourn the loss of all he could’ve been.”

She also told his fans that he was worthy of their love.

“If you were lucky enough to know Cory as we did and witness first-hand Cory’s goofy, breezy sense of humour, his natural instinct for inclusiveness and his unbridled sense of generosity day in and day out, I promise you would have loved him even more,” said Jane.

The tribute ended with a black screen and the message ‘Cory Monteith 1982-2013.’
