Jefferies says there may be more Hearts signings to come

Jim Jefferies has said that he is confident that Hearts can make further additions to their squad after making a trio of early summer signings.

The Tynecastle club have acted swiftly in the transfer market to snap up John Sutton, Jamie Hammill and Danny Grainger but manager Jefferies says he intends to do more business.

“The new signings have plenty of experience in the SPL between them and we still feel confident we can get another couple in before the season gets underway,” he said.

The manager expressed his satisfaction at having brought in three players who would strengthen his squad without paying a transfer fee.

“We have taken great advantage of freedom of contract,” he explained.

“Hamill fits the criteria of being a young player with lots of improvement in him. I’m sure he will do well.

“John has proved himself in Scotland at two or three clubs and he can get better. Danny is a player that we’ve always liked.”

Jefferies admitted that the possibility of losing Lee Wallace to another club meant there was a need to ensure he had other options at left-back and said that Grainger had been signed with that in mind.

“We know Lee Wallace, when he gets back playing, could be a target before the end of the season to move on so you need to give yourself cover and I think Danny give us that,” he added.
