John Travolta apologises to Idina Menzel for Oscars bloop

John Travolta has broken his silence following his unfortunate gaffe at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, in which he mispronounced Idina Menzel’s name as “Adele Dazeem”.

The Pulp Fiction actor took to the stage to introduce Menzel to perform the Frozen ballad ‘Let It Go’, but appeared to welcome her as “the talented, the one and only, Adele Dazeem”.

Travolta has now released a statement, saying: “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought, ‘What would Idina Menzel say?’ She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’

“Idina is incredibly talented,” he added. “And I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night.”

Meanwhile, a handy widget – The Adele Dazeem Name Generator – launched earlier. Users can ‘Travoltify’ their name by searching it in the generator and finding out how Travolta would pronounce it.

‘Let It Go’ went on to win the Best Original Song prize during the ceremony, while Frozen won the award for Best Animated Film.
