Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to sue YouTube co-founder over proposal video
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly suing the co-founder of YouTube for leaking a video of the moment they got engaged.
Kanye popped the question to Kim on her 33rd birthday and a poor-quality clip of the big moment was leaked online.
The grainy clip was filmed from a distance and shows West getting down on one knee.
The video was apparently released by Chad Hurley – one of the co-founders of YouTube – who reportedly uploaded the footage to his new website MixBit.
However, Kardashian and West have now claimed that Hurley’s decision to release the video was in breach of a confidentiality agreement, TMZ reports.
The couple allege in a lawsuit that Hurley was not invited to the event but managed to talk his way in.
They say that he was allowed to stay on the condition that he signed a confidentiality agreement, and the court documents include a photograph of Hurley holding the contract.
Kardashian and West also accuse Hurley of using the proposal to boost MixBit, saying that he was hoping to find a “second act” after struggling to succeed with his ventures after selling YouTube.
“Hurley proceeded to try to turn the event into one starring himself, broadcasting the images he knew were the exclusive property rights of someone else,” the lawsuit says, pointing out that Hurley released a press release to promote the proposal video.
Kardashian and West are suing for unspecified damages, including punitive damages.
