LAWSON frontman reveals band is named after surgeon who saved his life

LAWSON frontman, Andy Brown, has revealed how the band were named after the surgeon who saved his life.

When the Liverpudlian was just 19-years-old, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening tumour, which almost left the singer  blind and deaf

Now aged 25, Andy has opened up about that terrifying  time and how he owes everything to his surgeon, David Lawson.

“The tumour was wrapped around my optic nerve that controls your sight,” explained Andy.

“If the surgeon hadn’t found it and removed it I’d be blind and completely deaf.”

“There were complications in the operation and there was a 40 per cent chance of facial paralysis.

“I lost hearing in my right ear, which is a blow, but I have to make sure I protect my left ear. It’s super sensitive and I protect it at live gigs with earplugs. But if it wasn’t for the surgeon I wouldn’t be here now. I can’t thank him enough. I owe absolutely everything to him.”

Andy says he named his band after the surgeon who saved his life, and the C-shaped scar behind Andy’s ear is a daily reminder to live for the moment.

“It was a tough time in my life but surviving has changed my whole perspective. You only get one shot in life.”

Lawson’s new single Standing In The Dark is out NOW!!

Their debut album Chapman Square is out on October 22 and the band will be at HMV in Glasgow on October 24 for an in store performance.
