Lea Michele opens up about Cory Monteith’s death
Lea Michele has opened up about the death of her boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith.
Cory died from an accidental drug overdose in July following a lengthy struggle to kick the habit.
Lea has mostly remained silent following Cory’s death, but has now spoken to TV Week Australia about grieving for the actor, revealing their was “no greater man”.
“I feel like, for me personally, I’ve lost two people: Cory and [his Glee character] Finn,” said Michele.
“We had a beautiful memorial for Cory in the auditorium and some of the cast members sang and people spoke about him.
“It only felt right that we would do the same thing for Finn [on the show], so I felt it was very therapeutic.”
Michele added of returning to Glee mere weeks after Monteith’s death: “Everyone is asking, ‘Is it hard to do this? Is it hard to be back at work?’
“But the truth is it’s no harder at work than it is in life so we might as well all be together as a family supporting each other to get through this together.”
The actress also discussed Glee’s upcoming tribute to Monteith in the episode ‘The Quarterback’, which will write out the character of Finn Hudson.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but we did it because it was something we all needed to do together,” explained Michele.
The star added that she is thankful that she was “lucky enough” to have Monteith in her life for many years.
Glee airs ‘The Quarterback’ on Thursday (October 10) on Fox in the US. The episode will air on October 18 in the UK on Sky 1
