Little Mix have admitted they’re not fans of X Factor contestant Christopher Maloney, revealing they “don’t really get” the appeal of the wild card contestant.

The girl group also questioned who would buy the singer’s records if he wins the competition.

Speaking to The Sun, the band’s Jesy Nelson jokingly expressed her sympathy for Maloney’s mentor Gary Barlow.

“Poor Gary, clinging on to ‘Ma-phoney’,” she said, before clarifying: “We’re not fans.

“I don’t really get it and I don’t know who is going to buy his music. I guess ‘each to their own’. But I can’t see that he’s going to become a popstar.”

“I’ll eat my hat if he goes the whole way,” added Jade Thirlwall.

On Saturday’s live show, Maloney was forced to deny that he was voting for himself in order to stay in the competition. Earlier in the week, reports had emerged that the 34-year-old Liverpudlian – who is Barlow’s last remaining act in the ‘Overs’ category – had spent thousands of pounds phoning his own voting line.

“I just don’t know where they’ve got that from,” he said.

It is rumoured that the ‘wild card’ contestant is receiving double the number of public votescompared to his rivals each week.
