Mass Effect 3 is the biggest launch of 2012
Mass Effect 3 has shipped 3.5 million copies worldwide.
Publisher EA hailed the launch as the first pop culture event and “biggest entertainment launch” of the year.
The action role-playing game went on sale earlier this week in North America and across Europe earlier today.
“We have been truly humbled by the amazing response from fans and critics for Mass Effect 3,” said BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka.
“The game is a gripping, engaging experience where the decisions and choices you make will truly stay with you for the months and years ahead.”
He added: “We are all incredibly proud of [creative director] Casey Hudson and the teams in Edmonton and Montreal for delivering the best game BioWare has ever made.”
Pre-orders for the title were said to be “well ahead of its predecessor”. However, it has been thought that sales could be down after it was revealed GAME would not stock any future releases by EA.
Mass Effect 3 is available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
