NBA: San Antonio Spurs secure finals spot after Grizzlies sweep

San Antonio Spurs have secured their place in the NBA Finals after completing a 4-0 series sweep over the Memphis Grizzlies with a 93-86 win.

Tony Parker led the visitors with 37 points, hitting 15 of 21 and all six free throws to ensure the Western Conference champions have an extended rest before the fight for the title begins on June 6.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Parker

“Since last year, I promised to him [Duncan] that we will go back, go back to the Finals and get an opportunity to win the whole thing and I’m trying to do my best, trying to be aggressive every night.

“I think everybody on the team, we really want to do it from him. We win the West and now it’s one more step. This is the hardest one.”

“I’m glad we’re done with them. They are very physical,” said of the Grizzlies.

“Now we have a week off. That will be nice.”

Tim Duncan put up 15 for the Spurs, while the Grizzlies got a career-high 22 points from reserve Quincy Pondexter, 18 of those in the second half.

Marc Gasol scored 14, Zach Randolph finished with 13, but it was not enough and it is the Spurs who will face the winner of the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat for the title.
