NBA: Tuesday night action sees John Wall lead the Washington Wizards to win over the LA Lakers
John Wall’s 360 dunk was the highlight of his 31 points as the Washington Wizards toppled the Los Angeles Lakers 116-111.
Wall, who scored 30 points or more for the third game in a row, lit up the second quarter as he intercepted a pass and ran the length of the court before finishing with a flourish.
Nene added a career-high 30 for Washington, while the Lakers had a three-game winning streak stopped despite 22 points from Jordan Farmar.
“We have to learn how to win with this team. It’s just put together and we don’t have one thing that we go to all the time, but we’ll get it straight,” said Los Angeles coach Mike D’Antoni.
“They’re playing hard, and they’re together and we should have won tonight.”
Wall, who was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday, has scored more than 30 points in three straight games for the first time in his career. The point guard scored 11 points in the final 4:40 to help seal the win.
Washington coach Randy Wittman isn’t surprised or especially pleased by Wall’s success in his fourth year.
“No, because he’s going to play better (Wednesday),” said Wittman.
Lakers’ Kobe Bryant is back practicing, but his return won’t come until at least Dec. 6, when the Lakers play at Sacramento.
“We don’t think about it much at all. We have a job to do now, the guys who are in the lineup. Everybody’s focused on their responsibility and I think we’ve done pretty good so far,” said Jordan Farmar.
“We’re still learning and still trying to figure each other out. It’s going to be a work in progress even when he does come back, trying to figure out everybody’s role.”
The Brooklyn Nets snapped a five-game losing streak as they edged out the Toronto Raptors 102-100 behind 24 points from Andray Blatche and 21 from Joe Johnson.
It was also a tight contest in New Orleans, where the Golden State Warriors ended a three-game losing run as they escaped with a 102-101 victory over the Pelicans, Klay Thompson leading the way with 22 points.
Arron Affalo’s 26 points led the Orlando Magic to a 109-92 win over the Atlanta Hawks, snapping a losing streak on the road which stretched back for 17 games.
