The New York Jets put an end to a three-game losing streak with a 27-13 triumph over the St Louis Rams.

Back-up running back Bilal Powell scored two touchdowns to help the Jets move to 4-6 for the season – they had been outscored 58-16 in their last two outings before their bye week.

Powell reached the end zone for the first time in his career on a five-yard rush at the start of the fourth quarter before then repeating the trick just under six minutes later, only this time from 11 yards out.

His pair of scores finally put some daylight between the two teams after the Jets had led 13-7 at the end of a highly-competitive first half.

Chaz Schilens scored on a 25-yard reception from a throw from quarterback Mark Sanchez for the visitors, before Nick Folk kicked a pair of 51-yard field goals.

St Louis had actually taken the lead on a one-yarder from Sam Bradford to Brandon Gibson but had to wait until six minutes from the end before they would score again.

They had looked to have reached the end zone on a 98-yard kick-off return only for the touchdown to be wiped out by a holding penalty.

Quarterback Bradford did connect again with Gibson for a fourth-quarter score, although by then it was no more than a late consolation.

The Rams, who had headed into the contest off the back of an impressive 24-24 tie with the San Francisco 49ers on the road, have now not tasted victory in any of their last five outings.
