NFL: Denver Broncos beat New York Giants as Manning brothers square up
Denver Broncos came out on top last night in a match that seen the Manning brothers Peyton and Eli face one another for the third time in their career.
Peyton got one over his younger brother as the Denver Broncos beat the New York Giants 41-23.
Peyton threw two touchdown passes as the match came alive in the second half.
Josh Brown had landed field goals from 36, 24 and 41 yards for the Giants, while Knowshon Moreno raced over from 20 yards for the opening touchdown and Matt Prater slotted over the extra point before kicking the Broncos into the lead at the break.
Denver extended their advantage in the third quarter when Manning connected with Wes Welker from two yards, however the Giants hit back through Brandon Jacobs’ one-yard run.
Moreno’s second touchdown – rushing from 25 yards for a total of 93 for the match – kept Broncos clear, though.
The fourth quarter saw Manning find Julius Thomas with an 11-yard scoring pass, while Trindon Holliday’s 81-yard punt return put the result beyond doubt.
Eli Manning, who had endured a difficult night in the shadow of his brother, finally connected with Da’Rel Scott with a 23-yard pass but it was too little, too late for the Giants.
And the Broncos had the final word as Prater landed a monster 47-yard field goal.
Peyton Manning finished with 307 yards after completing 30-of-43 passes. Eli did register 362 yards, but completed 28-of-49 passes and was intercepted four times.
“It’s a strange situation,” Peyton said after. “Yeah, it’s strange circumstances. Good win, good team win. I think both of us are glad that it’s over with.”
