NFL: Lightning only postpones the inevitable for Baltimore Ravens

The Denver Broncos ran rampant over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night after lightning delayed the first game of the new NFL season for 33 minutes.

The lightening strike unfortunately wasn’t enough to bolt the Ravens to a win, with the Broncos running all over them to take a 27-49 win.

Manning tied the NFL record for most touchdown passes in a match, leaving the Baltimore Ravens out of breath and out of ideas.

The Broncos hit top gear in the second half and left an exhausted Baltimore defence behind – a combination of Manning’s no huddle – hurry up offense and the altitude at Denver’s mile high stadium appeared to sap the energy from the visiting ravens.

Manning threw an incredible 462 yards and 7 touchdowns for a 27-49 victory for the Broncos.

The Reigning champs have never allowed 49 points past their much vaunted defence in the history of the franchise and will be asking themselves a few questions like what the heck just happened?

Embarrassingly, Broncos’ linebacker Danny Trevathan dropped the ball 2 yards short of the end zone in a premature celebration after intercepting a sloppy pass attempt by Joe Flacco late in the fourth quarter.

Broncos’ fans would have been holding their breath as key defensive linebacker Wesley Woodyard looked like he might have picked up an injury whilst collecting the dropped ball in the end zone however Woodyard later returned with no apparent lasting damage.
