NFL: Nick Folk kicks New York Jets to late victory over Atlanta Falcons
Nick Folk kicked the New York Jets to a late victory over Atlanta Falcons.
A 43-field goal from Nick off the last play sealed a 30-28 victory for the New York Jets against the struggling Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons had rallied brilliantly in the final quarter to overturn a 13-point deficit to lead 28-27 with under two minutes remaining, however Jets rookie Geno Smith guided the Jets back down field with four straight passes and an eight-yard run to set up the position for Folk to land the winning field goal.
Smith put his recent woes behind him as he completed 16-of-20 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns to complete a good night for the 22-year-old.
Folk had opened the scoring with a 22-yard field goal, before the Falcons responded through a four-yard touchdown pass from Matt Ryan to Jason Snelling.
The Jets, though, took control as Smith connected with Jeff Cumberland (20 yards) and Jeremy Kerley (16 yards) to lead 17-7 at the break.
The Falcons cut the deficit as Jacquizz Rodgers rushed over from four yards but the Jets must have thought they had the win in the bag as Folk kicked a 36-yard field goal and Smith found Kellen Winslow with a one-yard pass.
However from 27-14 behind, the Falcons rallied as first Rodgers scored following a 19-yard run and Ryan tossed a three-yard TD pass to rookie tight end Levine Toilolo.
Folk, though, snatched the win for the Jets (3-2) – leaving the Falcons (1-4) on their longest losing streak since 2007.
Ryan completed 36-of-45 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns.
