Nina Dobrev spotted crying over Ian Somerhalder split

Nina Dobrev has reportedly been spotted crying over her ex-love and co-star Ian Somerhalder.

The Vampire Diaries co-stars called an end to their relationship earlier this month after three years of dating, however recent reports would suggest Nina isn’t quite ready to come face to face with Somerhalder.

The pair were seen having an emotional conversation at a party to celebrate The CW’s new season on May 16, according to Us Weekly.

The co-stars walked the red carpet separately at the CW Upfront event in New York, however later appeared together on stage with the president of network Mark Pedowitz in between them.

“[Nina’s] eyes welled up,” a source said. “She looked so sad.”

“They avoided eye contact,” the source added of the pair’s interaction before their chat.

“It was awkward.”

The pair have confirmed there was no one else involved in the break-up, however friends believe the 10 year age gap between them was a factor.

A source said: “There was no mean spiritedness behind of either of their motives for ending it.

“The relationship kind of brewed out of a friendship and the fact that they had to get into a romance for the show. The breakup was inevitable.

“I think she decided she wanted to experience other things.”

Insiders have previously claimed that Dobrev and Somerhalder are “consummate professionals” who will remain “best friends” when The Vampire Diaries returns for its fifth season this fall.
