Oscars 2014: Matthew McConaughey wins Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club
Matthew McConaughey took home the prize for Best Actor at last night’s Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles.
McConaughey took home the top prize for his role as AIDS patient Ron Woodruff in Dallas Buyers Club.
The actor cemented his career resurgence – dubbed The McConaissance – by picking up his first Oscar at the evening’s ceremony.
“There are three things I need every day: something to look up to, something to look forward to, something to chase. First I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He has shown me it’s a fact that gratitude reciprocates,” said McConaughey on accepting his award.
“To my family, that’s who I look forward to. My father I know is up there, he’s probably in his underwear and he’s dancing right now. To my mother who’s here tonight, who taught me and my brothers to respect ourselves and others. To Camilla and my kids, the courage you give me every day is unparalleled.
“And to my hero, that’s who I chase. When I was 15-years-old, I said, ‘It’s me in ten years!’ So I turned 25, and I thought, ‘I’m not even close!’ Everyday, my hero’s always ten years away. I’m never going to attain that, but that gives me somebody to keep on chasing.
“So whoever we look up to, whoever we look forward to, whoever we keep chasing, I say alright alright alright. Just keep living!”
