Paul Akister eliminated from X Factor after losing sing-off to Jay James
Paul Akister became the latest act to be eliminated from The X Factor.
In a shock results show, Paul and Jay James ended up in the bottom two.
Singing for their place on the show, Paul sang ‘Clown’ by Emeli Sandé, while James performed Eric Clapton’s ‘Tears in Heaven’.
After the sing-off, judge Simon Cowell wanted to send home Akister, while Mel B sided with her act and sent home James.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini also wanted to eliminate James, leaving Louis Walsh with the deciding vote, who chose to send it to deadlock.
With the lowest number of public votes, Paul was eliminated from the competition.
A distraught Paul appeared numb while watching his highlights from the show.
“I can’t talk,” he told Dermot O’Leary.
Former Spice Girl and mentor, Mel B was left furious when her act lost the sing-off.
Rushing onto the stage to embrace him as he wept, Dermot asked Mel to offer a comment about the ruling – to which she responded “Are you kidding me?” and left the host with awkward dead air.
The X Factor continues next Saturday (November 15) at 8.15pm on ITV, for a Big Band-themed live show.
