Peter Andre devastated by brother’s death
Peter Andre is in mourning after his eldest brother Andrew lost his battle with kidney cancer.
Andrew Andre passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning (December 16) surrounded by his family. He was 54 years old.
“Peter is devastated. He was very, very close to his brother,” a spokesperson for the singer and reality TV personality toldĀ The Mirror.
“This is the very first family member Peter has experienced losing. He just needs time to grieve.”
Andrew was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February and spent most of this year undergoing chemotherapy, bravely sharing some of his struggle with the disease on his brother’s show, Peter Andre: My Life.
Peter postponed his tour earlier this month when his older brother’s health deteriorated.
A statement from his management company on Twitter at the time read: “It is with great regret that Peter Andre has postponed his remaining December 2012 tour dates, starting from Liverpool tomorrow, Sat Dec 8th.”
Peter rushed to his brother’s side in his London hospital, while his parents flew to England from Australia last week.
Andrew’s wife Magda was also said to be by his bedside.
A friend of the family added: “Everyone was with [Andrew] when he passed away. They all did everything they could for Andrew, and there wasn’t one waking minute when he wasn’t with somebody.”
Pete’s ex-wife Katie Price was among a host of celebrity pals who took to Twitter this morning to send their condolences to the family.
She wrote: “My thoughts are with the Andre family at this difficult time xx.”
