Queens Park Rangers sack manager Mark Hughes

Queens Park Rangers have sacked manager Mark Hughes after 10 months in charge. Following a miserable start to the season QPR are currently sitting bottom of the Premier League.

A QPR statement read: “The board of directors wish to thank Mark for his commitment, hard work and dedication in his ten months in charge.

“Mark has shown integrity and professionalism throughout his time here, but ultimately the circumstances we find ourselves in have left the board of directors with very little choice but to make a change.

Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki will take charge for the match away to Manchester United on Saturday.

The club said that it would make “a further announcement in due course” with former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp favourite to take charge at Loftus Road.

The Hoops’ only managed to preserve the Premier League status on the final day of last season and, despite implementing a massive overhaul of his squad during the summer, Hughes’ team have continued to struggle.

The new arrivals at QPR have included keeper Julio Cesar, defender Jose Bosingwa, midfielders Esteban Granero, Ji-Sung Park and Stephane Mbia as well as strikers Djibril Cisse and Bobby Zamora.

But Hughes, 49, has steered his side to just four points from their opening 12 games, which have included eight defeats.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes had continually backed Hughes but appears to have finally run out of patience with the former Wales, Blackburn, Manchester City boss.
