Radio 1 Big Weekend opens in Glasgow

The gates have opened for Radio 1’s Big Weekend with 50,000 fans taking to Glasgow Green over the next two days.

One Direction opened the main stage with their track Kiss You, accompanied by hoards of screaming fans.

Coldplay will headline tonight with Example provide music to dance the night away to in the ‘In New Music We Trust’ stage.

Other acts performing throughout the day include Calvin Harris, Jake Bugg, Lily Allen, Paolo Nutini, Twin Atlantic and Pharrell Williams.

Paolo revealed that he would be performing tracks from his number one album Caustic Love.

“Hopefully the people will be relatively familiar with some of the new songs,” he said.

“We’ve rearranged some of the older songs and we’ll play a few of them as they were, it’s going to be new but that’s the whole point.”
