Rihanna and Taylor Swift lead nominations for the 2012 MTV EMA Awards

Rihanna and Taylor Swift will be going head to head at this year’s MTV EMA awards, after both receiving nods for the Best Female and Best Pop gongs.
The pair will battle it out at the 19th annual awards ceremony on Sunday 11th November in Frankfurt’s historic Festhalle arena.
As well as Best Female and Best Pop, Rihanna is also nominated for Best Look, Best Fans, Best Song and Best Video for hit track We Found Love, while Taylor is also up for Best Look, in addition to Best Live and Best World Stage.
In the Best Female category, the duo face strong competition from Katy Perry, Pink and new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj.
Two-time EMA host Katy also received nods for Biggest Fans and Best Video for her track Wide Awake, while Bieber got four nominations including Best Male and Best World Stage.
Other nominees include Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Cary Rae Jepsen, who received three nods each.
One Direction led the way for the UK acts nominated for the event, receiving nods for Biggest Fans, Best UK & Ireland Act and Best New.

Jessie J, Conor Maynard, Rita Ora and Ed Sheeran also received nominations for Best UK & Ireland Act, while former X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson earned herself a nod for Best Push.
