Samsung launch Galaxy S4 with new eye-tracking technology
Samsung have revealed the Galaxy S4 smartphone.
The fourth-generation product contains features such as Samsung Smart Pause – allowing users to control the screen using their eyes – and Dual Camera mode – enabling them to take simultaneous photos and videos with both the rear and front cameras, and then blend the pictures together.
Air View detects when a user’s finger is hovering over the screen in order to display additional preview information, while Air Gesture means you can scroll web pages, accept calls and change a music track with a wave of the hand.
The Galaxy S4 – announced on Thursday in New York’s Times Square – can also create personalised Story Albums of special life moments through photos and videos, as well as content like SNS posts, memos and weather information.
The smartphone can even monitor a user’s well-being through its S-Health software, with accessories such as heart-rate monitors and weighing scales from Samsung, as well as blood pressure and blood sugar monitors from other companies.
Samsung said that the Galaxy S4 will sport a bigger 5-inch display than the S3’s 4.8 inches, although the new display will cover more of the phone’s surface area, meaning the device itself is the same length and slightly narrower, thinner and lighter than the previous generation.
“With the Galaxy S4, Samsung is again going to enhance the way we live,” said JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung.
“All the innovative features of Galaxy S4 were developed based on the insights and needs we found from our consumers all around the world.
“Following the successful Galaxy S series, this phone is yet another great proof point of people-inspired innovation. At Samsung we’ll never stop pursuing innovation conceived by people, so we can inspire them in return.”
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available from April 26 in the UK from the Samsung Experience Store at Westfield Stratford City and all other major operators.
Phones 4U has announced that it will be stocking the device at launch, while Carphone Warehouse will offer it on all major networks from April 25.
