Samsung ‘planning to sue Apple over 4G’

Samsung is reportedly planning a lawsuit against Apple over its use of 4G technology.

The Galaxy platform holder is planning to hits its rival with a lawsuit if the Cupertino-based firm’s next iPhone is backed by the cellular data tech, the Korea Times reports.

Samsung holds more than 12% of the world’s 4G patents, but Nokia possesses an overall majority with a 18.9% share.

Apple already has a 4G-ready device on the market in its third generation iPad, but Samsung is said to be biding its time so it can pursue a sales injunction against the firm’s next smartphone.

The report follows Apple’s landmark court victory over Samsung, in which a US judge ordered its rival to pay out $1.05 billion (£665 million) in damages for patent infringement.

The Tim Cook-led company is now planning to attempt to force a sales injunction on various Samsung products, including the Galaxy S3 smartphone and the Galaxy Note line of hybrid tablets.

Last week, it emerged that Cook has held high-level peace talks with Google’s Larry Page in a bid to resolve the overarching dispute between the two firms.
