Seth Rogen criticises American Sniper
Seth Rogen is the latest celebrity to criticise film American Sniper.
Bradley Cooper has earned an Oscar nomination for portraying Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in US military history.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Rogen, hit out at the movie on Sunday by comparing it to Inglourious Basterds’s Nazi propaganda film-within-a-film Nation’s Pride.
“American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that’s showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds (sic),” he wrote.
Rogen later responded to media coverage of his initial tweet by writing: “I wasn’t comparing the two. Big difference between comparing and reminding. Apples remind me of oranges. Can’t compare them, though.”
Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Moore also condemned American Sniper over the weekend for glorifying marksmen.
“We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes. And invaders r worse (sic),” Moore tweeted.
American Sniper is competing for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 87th Academy Awards. The movie topped the US box office over the weekend.
