Sharon Osbourne labels Lady GaGa’s bullying campaign a publicity stunt
Sharon Osbourne has slammed Lady Gaga’s approach to the handling of her fans’ behaviour towards daughter Kelly Osbourne.
In the latest extract from the X Factor judge’s forthcoming book, Sharon claims Gaga’s anti-bullying foundation therapists were “just a publicity stunt”.
“By not repudiating her fans’ bullying, she was condoning it. That’s why I called her a hypocrite,” says Sharon in her new book.
In another extract from Unbreakable, being serialised in The Sun, Sharon wrote: “I was so disappointed because I had always been a huge fan. I have been to three of her shows and she’s undeniably a very talented woman.
“But you can’t bang on about being anti-bullying and then refuse to tell your fans to stop haranguing other young women with nasty threats.”
Kelly revealed that Gaga’s fans sent her death threats via Twitter last year, after she made a comment on the singer’s weight.
The incident led to a series of open letters in which both sides criticised their stance on bullying.
The Osbourne matriarch added in her book that the ‘Applause’ singer “should know better”.
“The comments got worse, to the point where Kelly called me in tears, ‘Mummy, it’s never-ending’,” recalls Sharon.
“[Gaga] may have been bullied at school, but she was also the little rich kid that got everything she f**king wanted. She should know better.”
The music manager also suggests that Gaga consider using her foundation’s mobile counselling stations to seek advice of her own.
“On Gaga’s last tour there would be a bus at each venue and she put therapists in there for kids who were bullied,” she said.
“I felt it was just a publicity stunt. Perhaps the next time she has one of these mobile counselling stations she should go in and ask the therapist for advice on setting good examples for her fans.”
Unbreakable by Sharon Osbourne is published on October 10.
