Skyfall takes Best British Film at BAFTA Awards

Skyfall may have been overlooked in this years Oscar nominations, but the Brits still think the sky’s the limit for Bond awarding the latest installment the Best British Film gong at the EE BAFTA awards.

The Bond film took home the first award of the evening during last night’s ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House.

Collecting his award from Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck, producer and screenwriter Michael G Wilson told the star-studded crowd: “This is a first for Bond.”

Wilson was joined on the stage by director Sam Mendes who thanked the 1,292 people who worked on the film and praised the ‘sheer bloody mindedness’ of star Daniel Craig.

Skyfall faced formidable competition from box-office hit Les Miserables, which took a staggering £115million in the UK alone and over $1billion worldwide.

Speaking backstage, the film’s director Sam Mendes said he would love to make another Bond film, telling DYRT: “I’ve had a great time, it’s been a huge learning curve and we would want to make a better movie next time around, and if we thought we do that they might let me have another go again.”

Although Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, made more than $1 billion worldwide and is the most successful film yet in the 50-year history it was snubbed by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (OSCARS) despite the ceremony having a special Bond ‘tribute’ segment to celebrate the franchise.
