Spotted: Celtic’s Adam Matthews displaying his Karaoke skills
Celtic star Adam Matthews showed off his karaoke skills with a rendition of Chris Brown’s hit With You.
The Welsh defender raised £1000 for charity, after Celtic boss Neil Lennon told the crowd at the club’s Player of the Year awards that Matthews would get up and sing if a £1000 donation was made to the club’s charity foundation.
According to fans raving about his performance, he didn’t disappoint.
His girlfriend Hollie Thomas tweeted: “Definitely a bigger buzz around Adam’s vocal chords than anything he’s ever done with his feet. £1000 to charity though – I forgive him (just).”
ESPN commentator Derek Rae was the host for the evening and said everyone was amazed by Matthews’s perfomance.
“During the dinner break, there were whispers that a member of the squad wanted to do a solo performance.
“It emerged that it was Adam Matthews so we had to go off script a bit. It was very well received and it was all for the Celtic Foundation, as somebody sponsored the little musical moment.
“He was very impressive. I introduced him as a performer following in the grand traditions of Welsh crooners, so Tom Jones eat your heart out.
“He is a very accomplished footballer and when he gets a bit older and decides to pack it in, maybe there’s a second career there.
“It was a great night and everyone enjoyed themselves.”
He used a special green and white hooped microphone for the performance which he had hidden inside his jacket.
The Celtic Player of the Year awards were won by Georgios Samaras, Fraser Forster, Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper and Tony Watt.
Former Hoops star Stiliyan Petrov, who has been battling leukaemia, was also honoured.
