Star Wars set for new trilogy after Disney seal £2.5bn deal with Lucasfilm
Disney are to make at least three new Star Wars movies after buying Lucasfilm for £2.5billion.
Episode VII of the sci-fi saga will hit cinema screens in 2015 following the deal with Darth Vader’s creator George Lucas.
Disney plan to follow up with Episodes VIII and IX, then a film every two or three years.
Lucas began the original trilogy in 1977 then tarted them up with computer animation in the 1990s before releasing three prequels.
He has made billions from animated TV serials, toys and merchandise.
Lucas will be a creative consultant on the new Star Wars films.
He said: “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.”
The deal brings Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands including Pixar, Marvel and ESPN.
