The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes may never sing again
The Wanted have sensationally reveled that band member Nathan Sykes may never sing again after he had surgery to treat a vocal cord hemorrhage.
Singer Siva Kaneswaran gave a bleak update on the recovery of his bandmate but said the 20-year-old will be heard to perform, possibly for the last time, on their forthcoming album.
“He might not be able to sing at all, who knows?” admitted Siva.
“You’ve just got to wait and see.”
“It takes a long time for the vocal cords to heal properly. If it doesn’t heal in a certain way, it’s going to take a lot longer.”
In a silver-lining for Sykes’s fans, he had already recorded vocals for many of the tracks on the Glad You Came singers’ next record, including their next single Walk Like Rihanna.
“Luckily we had a lot of these songs recorded before but there have been a few songs that have come in,” said Siva.
Siva, who continues to fly the flag with remaining singers Max George, Jay McGuiness and Tom Parker, says it’s clear to hear the frog in Nathan’s throat.
“You can obviously hear in his voice something is difficult,” said Kaneswaran.
“All the other tracks we did after that he wasn’t able to record and it’s been quite difficult for him.”
Frustrated to be a man down, the 24-year-old told BBC Newsbeat: “What else can we do? You can’t just click your fingers and bring the voice back, you got to just work with it.”
Keeping his fingers crossed he added: “Our love goes with him and hopefully he will recover.”
