US Open: Andy Murray reaches his11th Grand Slam Semi-Final
Andy Murray dug himself out of a huge hole against Marin Cilic to reach the semi-finals of the US Open for the third time.
The Scot fought back from a set and 5-1 down to overwhelm the Croatian and cement his place in the semi-finals.
The match was switched from Arthur Ashe Stadium to the more compact Louis Armstrong court and Murray struggled as Cilic looked set to cause an upset.
Number 12 seed Cilic was 6-3 5-1 ahead but Murray drew level before racing to a 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 6-0 victory.
“I’ve had a lot of tough matches – everyone goes through them. We’ve seen Rafa (Nadal), Novak (Djokovic) and Roger (Federer) struggle here,” said Murray.
“There is pressure on you to perform well, expectations are high and sometimes you’re nervous.
“He played very well at the start and I struggled a little bit. When I managed to get the breaks back in the second set I relaxed a little bit.
“I’ve been in that position before when you’re serving for a two-set lead and someone comes back and it’s tough. The fourth set I played better.”
