Wayne Rooney wants new contract at Manchester United
Wayne Rooney has revealed he wants to sign a new contract with Manchester United.
Rooney, who reportedly asked to leave Old Trafford over the summer, says he is now happy with life at Manchester United and wants to sign a new contract at the club.
Despite being tipped to leave, he was eventually persuaded to stay by new United boss David Moyes, where he now admits he is settled.
And speaking while away on international duty, Rooney says he would now like to sit down with Moyes and discuss a possible new contract.
“You can see I’m playing and I’m happy in my football,” he said.
“I’ll have more discussions with the club [about a contract] and we’ll see what happens from there.”
Rooney’s current £250,000-a-week deal is due to expire in 18 months – and it’s thought the 27-year-old is now seeking a deal that would secure him to United well into his thirties.
The new contract would also likely include a pay rise, with some talk that he could earn as much as £300,000-a-week if he signs up – putting him level with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
United are expected to discuss several new deals with players after Christmas.
