Will Smith says he’s still best known for Fresh Prince role
Will Smith has revealed that despite the numerous movies he’s appeared in, he is still best known for his time on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
The Men in Black III actor starred in the sitcom for six seasons between 1990 and 1996, before becoming a leading Hollywood star and rap artist.
“I have done so many movies but in every country in the world that is the thing I am most known for, no matter how big the movies get,” he told Graham Norton.
“As long as they are shouting ‘Will’ I am cool, I don’t care what it’s for.”
Smith also spoke about being “broke” before he found success on the series after his debut rap album flopped in the US.
“Man, I spent it all. We had made millions of dollars and at such a young age you think it’s going to last forever but by the time I was 19 I was broke. We put an album out that flopped and I was ‘poor people’ broke.”
Will Smith also recalled how Prince Charles once watched his film Ali at a royal premiere in 2001, where his assistant warned him of a potential love scene.
“Someone taps his shoulder before the love scene comes up and he looks down,” he revealed.
“I’m thinking, ‘Come on, this is my best work!’ When the love scene was over someone tapped him and he looked back up.”
The actor will appear on The Graham Norton Show alongside Gary Barlow and Sir Tom Jones tonight (May 18) at 10.35pm on BBC One.
Will Smith stars in Men in Black III, which debuts in theatres worldwide on May 25.
